Romans 7:21

"So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me."
From Background Notes [BN] for October 22/23rd written by Pastor Bob Brown:

The language of law inherently has to do with government and rule and kingdom. Sovereigns rule through law. Rome prided itself on its law and justice by which it ruled the world and maintained the famous Pax Romana — the Peace of Rome.

Ancient Israel became a nation, not just a loose tribal association, at the foot of Mount Sinai when Moses received the Torah (law), according to Exodus 19ff. Indeed, Israel became a holy nation, reflecting the likeness of Yahweh, its king. Torah was Yahweh’s gift of governance to His people, and rightfully read, interpreted, and applied, Torah would guide as well as instruct the nation. Yet, counter to this law and opposed to it, Paul continues to tell his audience, “I find this law at work…”[BN,11]
