From Background Notes [BN] for October 8 & 9 written by Pastor Bob Brown:
Paul illustrates this point by citing the remarkable case of David whose sins, public and private, became part of the Biblical record (4:7-8). The full account of David’s confession appears in Psalm 51. However...
... Paul cites another text from Psalm 32:1-2 because the language looks similar to Paul’s in Romans 4. Anyone with a “transgression” or a “sin” who receives “forgiveness” or a “covering” is truly blessed by God. For, says the psalmist, the Lord does not count that person’s sin against him. Well, if God does not count sin against someone, who otherwise deserves to be found guilty, God is crediting righteousness to that person apart from works (4:6). [BN, 3]
