From Background Notes [BN] for January 26th & 27th written by Pastor Bob Brown:
For Esau, the hunger of the moment
becomes despising at the end.
Now he feels satisfied with red stew; now he sells his birthright; now he despises the best place for a single meal. For the moment, the strongman yields to the clever man. Esau’s departure from the table speaks volumes: “He ate, drank, stood up, and went away.” We are tempted to rephrase: “Eat, drink, for tomorrow we die.” Long-term goods exchanged for short-term appetites.
