Daniel 4:29-30

Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

From Background Notes [BN] for February 2nd & 3rd written by Pastor Bob Brown:

History confirms the extensive building activity of Nebuchadnezzar which included the royal palace where nothing was spared: neither "cedar-wood, nor bronze, gold, silver, rare and precious stones.” Archaeologists uncovered a stone monument with the following inscription excerpt:

I (Nebuchadnezzar) laid the foundation of the gates down to the ground water level and had them built out of pure blue stone. Upon the walls in the inner room of the gate are bulls and dragons and thus I magnificently adorned them with luxurious splendor for all mankind to behold in awe.

Only a sampling of his achievements, the king also built the famous Hanging Gardens. Walking, that day, on the roof of his palace, the king surveyed all that he had made, and yielded to the rhetorical boast: “Is this not magnificent Babylon, which I have built as a royal capital by my mighty power and for my glorious majesty (4:30).” Not a word about what Daniel counseled him, a year before. Not a single acknowledgement that God is the true king of kings to whom he, Nebuchadnezzar, must submit as sovereign. It’s as if the dream had never happened or that its interpretation had never been given or that the king chose to resist the call to repentance.  [BN, 5-6]
