Leviticus 25:54

Even if someone is not redeemed in any of these ways, they and their children are to be released in the Year of Jubilee

No national group understood the joy of release and freedom better than ancient Israel whose story included the Exodus from Egyptian bondage.



No people savored more the return from exile than Judah after the Babylonian conquest of Canaan in 587 BCE. In the 1960’s we heard Martin proclaim, “Free at last, free at last, thank  God, Almighty, free at last!” In the old Wesley hymn, the poet portrayed salvation through an imprisonment metaphor and the word, “My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.” [BN,1]
