By saying that Jesus “appeared,” as he does four times in 15:5-8, Paul wants to make sure that his audience hears about a bodily resurrection, and not just another way of talking about “life after death.”

If Jesus arose in a transformed body — a body with transformed physicality — then a new precedent has been set in God’s creation, one that impacts every living human being. [BN,9]
