Judges 7:7

The LORD said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.”

From Background Notes [BN] for February 1st & 2nd written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Such a persistent God was new to Gideon: he could not guard his soul from the persistent purpose of this God.

Like Israel of Isaiah’s generation, Gideon had his demons which, little by little, swarmed from his soul into the night tides which carried them away, leaving not a mark in the sand but traced scars on his soul. Gideon discovered a God “that would not let him go,” though he did not wholly trust this God, harassed as he was by the fears and doubts of a failed Baalism, a failed religion that demanded everything and gave back little. Now suddenly through the Word of this God, spoken in the night and against the darkness, Gideon has found something entirely new, with little resemblance to what he has known. Who is this God called Yahweh? Can I trust Him, truly? Is His word reliable?  [BN,9]
