Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes,
give me a sign that it is really you talking to me.
From Background Notes
[BN] for January 18th & 19th written by Pastor Bob Brown:
Like Gideon, early Christians asked
for a sign of truth and authenticity, and they found it in the Gospel and its messengers
which confessed that “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh…” and…
…in the further assurance given in 1 John
4:4, “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” If
somebody was going to call Gideon “mighty warrior,” he had better have his
evidence in hand; if we are going to conquer the spirits of deception, we had
better have the Triune God in our hearts. [BN,6]
