John 16:7-9

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me;

From Background Notes [BN] for June 8th & 9th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Through the Spirit, the Voice takes the up the cause of the kingdom, and in so doing engages in the following: “Prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.”

The Greek word, oftentimes translated “convict,” is elegchō, “show fault or error, prove guilty, condemn, rebuke, reprove.” The world, kosmos, holds decidedly wrong views about three crucial aspects of the kingdom:

1. Sin
2. Righteousness
3. Judgment

The Spirit will correct the wrong-headed understanding of these matters, and he will accomplish this through the preaching of the Word — the concrete form that the Voice takes through the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the proclamation of the church. Such an understanding does not rule out the direct work of the Spirit in the hearts of unbelievers through acts of grace that bring inner conviction of sin and the need for salvation. But the Voice acts through the medium of the biblical witness read in the church.  [BN, 11]
