John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

From Background Notes [BN] for December 3rd/4th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Before his incarnation — his becoming a human being, Jesus existed as the “Word” of God whose relationship with God is as His “Son.”

Paul would later expand this understanding by referring to Jesus as “the image of the invisible God, firstborn of all creation” and the agent of God’s creation (Colossians 1:15). The writer to the Hebrews makes much of this title: “Jesus, the Son of God” who “passed through the heavens” (4:14); “without beginning of days or end of life” (7:3). With the writing of the New Testament letters, the belief that Jesus is God’s Son moves beyond the Old Testament suggestions of kingly authority or personal intimacy. Instead, the groundwork is laid for the later church fathers to declare that the “Son of God” shares his very nature with God, existing in one “substance” (Greek: ousios) with God.[BN,6]
