Yet the rule of Jesus is not tyrannical or cruel. He comes to his throne by way of the cross. Scripture reminds us that human beings “crucified the Lord of glory”. 

How can a Lord, above all other lords, allow himself to be crucified? Herein lies the irony of his lordship: he becomes first by being last; he humbles himself in order to be exalted; he serves others before he asks them to serve him. From such ironies the Bible weaves the account of Jesus as Lord (see also, Romans 10:9; 2 Thessalonians 1:7; Acts 20:35). .[BN,5]
