Romans 5:6

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.”

There is urgency in those words, for they remind us about the extremity of the
human condition by using the word “ungodly”.

We encountered this term in 4:5 where God “justifies the ungodly.” From our study of Romans 1:18-32 we learned how the human race had bargained away faith in God for things of lesser value, especially in the decision to worship creation rather than the Creator. Knowing that persons become what they worship, we are put on alert that those who worship animals become.[BN,6]
