Romans 12:3

"For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”

From Background Notes [BN] for November 19th/20th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In that statement are echoes of Paul’s instruction about not living according to the flesh, but instead, according to the Spirit.

You will recall how life in the flesh was marked by boasting, especially about one’s performance of the Law-in-itself. The motive force of sin as a power in the flesh was selfishness and pride. Such expressions of the ego died with Christ so that he might destroy sin in the flesh. As a result, we are no longer obligated to the flesh, but are free to serve God through the Spirit. [BN,7]
