Israel’s story is filled with the
lives of many honored women, some of whom were literal mothers, while the
others represent motherhood on a higher level.
Following the drama of womanhood in the
Bible, involves us with notable characters who shaped the people of God as
mothers in this greater sense. They nurtured faithful offspring which became a nation,
not only in the narrower role of nuclear families, but also in the higher sense
of becoming spiritual mothers of faith. Our study for this Mother’s Day weekend
will examine the contributions, challenges, and breakthroughs of devoted women
in the Bible. In so doing, we will pay close attention to the developing place of
women in the community of faith. [BN,1]
