Genesis 39:1

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

From Background Notes [BN] for June 28th & 29th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Potiphar must have marveled at his Hebrew servant. Not only was Joseph successful, he brought blessing to the house and field of his master.

Our thoughts are instantly drawn to the promise made to Abraham: in you and your offspring will the whole world be blessed (chapter 12): "you will be a blessing", Yahweh told his covenant partner. And the writer of our story wants us to hear that same fact about Joseph: he is God's covenant partner through whom he intends to bless even the Egyptian people.  [BN,6]
