My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

“Listening” in the biblical sense commonly involves a willingness to obey and not only to pay attention.

Thus, we are not only giving room for God to speak, we are making ready to do what He tells us. We silence our words, and we also silence our own actions and prepare to do His. This, too, belongs to the life of prayer. [BN,2-4]
