Lamentations 3:22-23

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Faith in the ancestral sense means “to make oneself secure in Yahweh.”



Almost always when the verb “to have faith” appears, it is followed in the Hebrew language by the preposition be which is usually translated as “in.” That is, persons like Abraham “believed in Yahweh” in the sense that they found security in Him as they looked to the future for the fulfillment of His promises. Though the fulfillment lay in the future, yet it was something real, and Abraham (and the others) make themselves secure in it. Those who receive the promise prove themselves faithful in this way, and God must be faithful in return. [BN,1]
