Ephesians 1:13-14

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

From Background Notes [BN] for July 16th & 17th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

The phrase “a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance” refers back to the “seal of the promise Holy Spirit.” God’s new covenant with us, certified by Him when He justified us through the work of Jesus, directs us to the future by the hope that is anchored to God’s promise.

That is, the gift of the Spirit is the reliable pledge that what God has begun in our lives He will complete at the last day. His covenant with us now will one day be confirmed when we stand before Him and at last hear Jesus words of fulfillment, “Come, blessed of my Father.” To receive the inheritance is to be the recipients of the covenant fulfilled for all eternity. That is the blessed hope toward which we journey. It becomes our present motivation to “work with all your heart, working for the Lord, serving the Lord Christ.” What Jesus will say to us when we stand before his throne will be the reward for faithful service and the confirmation of his faithful work in justifying us.
