Matthew 4:19

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

From Background Notes [BN] for July 18th & 19th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

This text offers opportunity to comment on the cost of mission, as we witness a fisherman’s family abruptly broken up by the call to mission. There’s nothing comfortable about taking up the mission and answering the call.

In the case of the Twelve (who were not all fishermen), they needed to leave their own security, plans, and settled family life to be Jesus’ disciples. What is so remarkable in these abbreviated vignettes is the willingness of the Twelve to “immediately” assume their new work with Jesus — a reality that can only be explained, in my view, by the power of Jesus’ presence and the mystery of his promise to “make them” into something wholly new, yet somehow connected to their past vocations.
