Acts 1:7

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Why was Jesus so adamant here? It was because he knew the impact their perspective on the future would have on their mission.



If they imagined an "end of the world" scenario, they might hold back from the mission, thinking, "Oh, well, things are going to end anyway, so why bother doing much more than we already have." If they thought a literal "restoration" of the kingdom would take place in their lifetime, they might be inclined to join forces with the various resistance groups, such as the Zealots or Essenes, and consider this to be their mission. "It is not for you to know", says Jesus, because the Father has his own agenda, and it lies mysteriously hidden in the counsels of His will. Let God retain His prerogatives, He is, after all often full of surprises.  [BN,7]
