Love is the "ground" of the gifts, the indispensable foundation on which they rest. Consider:

1. God's love authors the giving of the gifts to the body of Christ.

2. God's love saturates our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
3. God's love moves us to care for and help one another in the Christ-community.
4. God's love leads us to "seek the better gifts" in order to most effectively build up the body of Christ. [BN,7]
