Genesis 2:18

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

From Background Notes [BN] for November 2nd & 3rd written by Pastor Bob Brown:

What is striking in this statement is the value judgment made by God about His own work thus far: “It is not good …” Did not each creation “day” end with a favorable evaluation, climaxing in the final judgment about the sixth day:

God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good (Genesis 1:31).

And yet, here is God, working with Adam, showing him the ropes of creation, allowing him freedom to “name the animals,” deferring to his decision about what they should be called; here is God watching while Adam reaches the end of his naming task (though it is really never done) and discovering that none of the animals are suitable companions (Genesis 2:20); here is God, dissatisfied with human creation as it then was, absent true social identity. Humanity in solitary form, outside of family, does not make God feel very good. [BN,3-4]
