Daniel 9:4

I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed:

“Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments…”

From Background Notes [BN] for February 11th/12th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

…Daniel prayed out of the depths of the Hebrew Scriptures which he knew so well.

He prayed with the words of Scripture woven into a fresh composition that drew on the very real problems of the Jews in exile, interceding for them. The lesson for us is to keep close to the written words of the Bible as we prepare our hearts to pray. Scripture guides our thoughts so that they are attuned to the will and purpose of God. From the words of the Bible, we learn how to speak the language of prayer. This is not to say our own words do not matter, for our words become the setting for God’s Word, the form in which the biblical language finds personal expression. But the Scriptures supply rich content to our prayers, and keep us from wandering off into highly self-serving petitions to God. Daniel exemplifies this healthy practice of preparing the heart for prayer by opening the mind to the Word of God. [BN, 6]
