Philippians 1:3-6

Clearly, those who had been "set free" recognized that freedom went deeper than political servitude. Hearts bound by sin and death were set free by the liberating Jesus.

Genesis 12:3

In this role, Israel was unique. Consider: "Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?" (Deuteronomy 4:34).

And so when we arrive at Genesis 12, we find Yahweh in search of a prototypic nation, one which could enrich and bless all the nations of the earth. This is why the Bible tells the story of Abraham and his descendants.
