Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

No doubt drawing inspiration from the example of Joshua, the letter reaches its climax with a call to courage.

In the rest of the letter, the apostle reminds his audience that they fight a battle “not against flesh and blood,” but in frontal assaults on the “principalities and powers” that rule the dark world all around them. Through the use of colorful language borrowed from the familiar military gear of a Roman soldier, he urges them to experience such courage by nurturing the great virtues that define them as Christians [BN,12]
