Joshua 7:11

Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.

From Background Notes [BN] for Sept 24th & 25th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

The reality for followers of the one true God is His setting before them “life and death,” and then invoking His own will declares, “Choose life.”

Moses bore those words to all Israel in the days near the end of his own life and on the eve of Joshua’s succession as leader (Deuteronomy 30:19). While it might have seemed that the clashing sword, fiery artillery, and furious chariot would threaten the greatest death on the advancing Israelite armies, in truth, yet the seditious enemy within would turn out to be the festering source of mortality instead. Sin, understood by our ancient forebears, stood at the ramparts and in the mountain crags to deceive, seduce, possess, and destroy the people of God. As for Cain, the first human murderer in the biblical story, sin was lying in wait, coiled by the door and ready to strike its poisonous fangs into the heart of even the most robust of warriors.
