Matthew 6:19

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

From Background Notes [BN] for Nov 14th & 15th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Our series concludes this week with an even more pernicious form of confederate value, one that derives its value through selfish accumulation in a “selfie” world.

Ordinary material possessions morph into confederate ones when human beings revolt against the King of heaven, a mutiny which surpasses the national divisions which dominated the American civil war. There is, you see, another war raging in the hearts of humanity, fueled by the false belief that everything belongs to us to do with as we alone see fit. While the ideals of western democracies hold tightly to the importance of “private property,” there rises from this idea a confederate one that diminishes the importance of much higher values — values that honor the common good. We live in this tension, and the results vex us every day. [BN,1]
