Luke 12:13

Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”

From Background Notes [BN] for Nov 7th & 8th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Entitlement tempts us all. Who has not felt that they have been short-changed?

Young children learn early about simple justice and even-handedness. “My turn!” is a clear concept to a toddler. Grabbing, grasping, and gripping are all verbs about making sure we have enough. To have more means feeling a bit more secure. The man who made his request of Jesus felt jilted by the inheritance system which favored his brother. “Jesus should fix that,” he thought to himself, “so that I will have enough.” Is that how we view Jesus and material things: that he’s the money fixer?
