Isaiah 40:6-8

A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

From Background Notes [BN] for Nov 28th & 29th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In response to the prophet’s verbal paralysis, the Word declares the nature of human beings, left to themselves, on their own, without adequate resources for life. Listen to the words:

“Flesh, grass, flowers.” They all fade and wither and perish. Of course we have no words equal to the task, and that is why God sends a new Word so that the messenger will be able to employ his own words as witnesses. Out of this wonderful convergence of the Word in our words comes the truth of inspiration, where His Word becomes our words, and our words become His Word. Here is assurance for the speaker of comforting words: “The word of our God will stands forever”. [BN,5]
