Mark 14:36

“Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

From Background Notes [BN] for Sept 5th & 6th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Here in Gethsemane the reader glimpses a Jesus wholly committed to carrying out the deeper purposes of God, facing his "hour" with the confidence that doing the will of God was far superior to doing his own.

But also Mark makes clear that Jesus faces this purpose of God alone, bereft of loyal disciples who would yet live to face a different day beyond the cross when the Rabbi would be seen as the Risen Lord. Only then could they truly "arise", empowered by the new truth that wholeness of life follows the darkness of death. In another garden, with a newly hewn tomb, some of them would gaze in wonderment and witness the reality of resurrection life. [BN,12]
