Through the faithfulness of Jesus, sin met its D-Day, and a new and living way was opened up for God kingdom to once more dawn with living power over sin.

The promise of Jesus to his emerging church is that “the gates of Hades would not prevail” (Matthew 16:18ff). Energized by the Holy Spirit, the followers of Jesus become the sign of a new future where D-Day would give way to V-Day — the last day — when the final battle would at ultimately deny to sin the final word. Those who by faith in the conquering grace of God declare their baptismal allegiance to the risen Lord Jesus continue in the meantime the interim struggle, turning aside the works of sin on the right hand and on the left.
