Genesis 4:7

If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

From Background Notes [BN] for Aug 29th & 30th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In what sense, we might ask?

In the first place, this word “crouch” resembles the natural posture of a serpent that is coiled on the ground and ready to strike, and that reminds us of the serpent’s role in the first temptation. That is, Cain is situated where his parents had been, and he is vulnerable to the same serpent attack as they had been. Secondly, the language of “door” resembles the scenario laid out by Paul in Romans 5: Adam let sin “into the world” through the opening of his own sin. Even so, Cain imitates the scenario of Eden by allowing his own emotions to motivate him to act in ways that let yet another sinful action to happen. Third, God attributes to sin “desires” that have mutinous designs on Cain: “to have” him — that is to control, possess, own, or otherwise seize him by force. Finally, Cain’s “way of escape” (see the language of Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:13) is God’s instruction to “master” sin and not allow it to master him. [BN,9]
