From Background Notes [BN] for April 13th & 14th
written by Pastor Bob Brown:
Our lives constantly
deal with outcomes: how things turn out, and where our actions take us. Deeds
have consequences, and the deeds of a whole life have ultimate consequences. Peter
uses the Greek word telos…
… meaning, “end, goal, aim,” and so he challenges us to see our outcomes in light of a final goal or aim or end. When your life ends, where will you end up? I frequently hear people say, “You know, at the end of the day …” when they want to focus on some bottom-line conclusion or long-term result. What they are trying to do is distill a lengthy argument or a pile of data to some plain simple reality. So, in our case, when it comes to our life, what’s going to be true for us at the end of our day? What has been the point of our life, and how will the end of our life at last make clear that point?
