From Background Notes [BN] for July 23rd & 24th written
by Pastor Bob Brown:
Faith in the ancestral
sense means “to make oneself secure in Yahweh.”
Almost always when the verb “to have faith”
appears, it is followed in the Hebrew language by the preposition be which
is usually translated as “in.” That is, persons like Abraham “believed in Yahweh”
in the sense that they found security in Him as they looked to the
future for the fulfillment of His promises. Though the fulfillment lay in the
future, yet it was something real, and Abraham (and the others) make
themselves secure in it. Those who receive the promise prove themselves faithful
in this way, and God must be faithful in return. [BN,1]
