From Background Notes [BN] for July 9th & 10th written
by Pastor Bob Brown:
Throughout the story in the Bible, God
regularly chooses more human beings to perform His work in the world. Creation
endowed persons with the image of God, and image bearers represent the nature
of God as His authorized representatives.
By means of humankind God has “skin in
the game.” Being the visible and tangible expressions of God’s glory, men and
women alike make palpable the invisible attributes of their Creator. The fullest expression of God’s image is
Jesus Christ, God’s Son, whom Scripture calls “the Word become flesh, pitching
his tent among us.” The importance of real connections between God and the
world is quite evident, and those connections have a material and concrete
form. Even though “God is Spirit,” He chooses to communicate with His creatures
in accessible ways that include the five senses, including sight and touch. [BN,1 ]
