Matthew 7:24

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Unlike his contemporary rabbis, he [Jesus] did not simply quote the opinions of others, but spoke the truth from God Himself.

 

But also, Jesus had the boldness to claim that in the shifting sands of life, when most things prove unstable, there is still a "rock solid" foundation capable of supporting out lives against the torrential rains and ravenous winds. For those who heard him, the words sounded like sweet music, especially where few of God's people felt terribly secure in a world ruled by the pagans. Each day raised the possibility that the "other shoe" would drop, and life as they knew would end. [BN,1]
