Romans 2:4

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

From Background Notes [BN] for June 25th & 26th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Repentance is the effective corrective to what we sometimes call “easy believism,” that turns a blind eye to the sinfulness of sin and the evil of fallen human nature.

If we fail to teach repentance, then it follows that the hearer will neither acknowledge nor understand the need for repentance. 1) Repentance, like faith, is a saving grace. 2) It involves a necessary knowledge and sense of sin. 3) It includes knowledge of the holiness and righteousness of God. 4) It apprehends the mercy of God in Christ. 5) It grieves for and hates sin. 6) It turns from that sin to God through Christ. 7) It walks in newness of life. True, evangelical repentance includes these dimensions and demonstrates them when it is practiced. [BN,11]
