Luke 14:28

"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"

From Background Notes [BN] for Jan 23rd & 24th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Not all human investments are about money. To “invest” is synonymous with “to clothe,” from the Latin word investire.

These are not ordinary clothes; they refer to endowing with symbols of office or honor, furnishing with power and authority, and infusing with qualities of character. With this idea also comes the practice of surrounding oneself with strength and security. A related term is “investiture” having to do with bestowing on a person a special role, usually expressed through a public ceremony by the community. In the ancient world, kings were installed in their office through an act of investiture, complete with royal robes and other regalia such as their scepter and crown. Commitment is central to the investment process, requiring the person to expend directed energy to fulfill the role involved. [BN,1]
