Matthew 16:13

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

From Background Notes [BN] for Nov 15th & 16th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

For followers of Jesus to come together and form new communities in the cities of the pagan world would require the assurance Jesus gives them in Matthew 16.

Caesarea Philippi embodied the challenges they would face in shaping the church under the cultural pressures represented there. Jesus wanted them to carve out a new way of life that would offer an alternative and that would counter the forces they saw in niches and caves before their very eyes. By coming together they would not be hiding from evil, but instead storming the gates of hell. Every time the church meets together publically or in homes, helping create authentic relationships and awesome worship experiences, the gates of hell tremble. [BN,8]
