1 Corinthians 15:50

I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

From Background Notes [BN] for May 24th & 25th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

The only way to secure such rule is to have a king who lives forever, and that king is Jesus. The only way to assure that the king lives forever is to endow him with an eternal human form, something that Jesus received, when God through the Spirit raised him from the dead.

Without resurrection, neither the human Jesus nor you or I, will endure forever. In matters of the kingdom of God, inheritance included one more important feature: the assurance that there will always be a king that succeeds to the throne. For Jewish people in Paul’s day that was a significant problem. Not since Zedekiah ruled Judah (ending in 587 BCE), did Israel have a successor to the throne of David. The problem with kings in Israel that hindered succession to the throne was that they kept dying! And the same problem afflicted the holy priesthood... [BN,11]
