This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases"

The last century gave the world unimaginable power, the kind that taps the mystery of the atom and lets the genie out of the bottle.

 Unleashed, this power is not only the dynamo, harnessing constructive energy; it is dynamite, reducing creation to primordial dust. Naked power in the hands of tyrants reduces civilization to the stone age and scorches the earth whenever denied conquest. Jesus does not handle power in that way. The words of Isaiah 9:6, “…mighty God…” or “God-Warrior” or “God Almighty” do not imply that God is a tyrant. A much different power is in mind. [BN, 8]
