Luke 17:19

Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

From Background Notes [BN] for November 17th & 18th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In one sense, faith does not become complete without gratitude. Jesus does not speak those words to the man before he heals him. He speaks them after he heals him.

The full circle of crying for mercy, obeying Jesus, stopping on the way, coming back, falling at Jesus feet, and giving thanks — all these precede the final words of Jesus. “Rise and go” would seem to apply to a lame man or a blind man or to someone otherwise unable to move. But in this case, the rising follows his worshipping at the feet of Jesus. Going follows giving thanks. The tenth leper does not rise in his sickness; he rises in his wholeness. He goes in the strength of mercy given and mercy received and mercy filled with gratitude. He rises and goes, not in weakness, but by the powerful word of Jesus. [BN, 8-9]
