Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…

From Background Notes [BN] for November 3rd & 4th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In the Talmud,(1) times of official mourning for the dead fall into four periods:

1) Three days are for weeping and lamentation;

2) The deceased is eulogized up to the seventh day in their house;

3) The somber clothes of mourning are worn up to the thirtieth day, and personal adornment is neglected.

4) When mourning for a parent, there is no amusement or entertainment for a year. Mourning appears symbolically as a sword that threatens to pierce the mourners for up to a year.

(1) A collection of ancient Jewish writings, traditions, and commentaries assembled between 200 and 500 C.E. Divided into two parts, the first part is called the Mishnah, the Jewish oral law in written form. The second part is the Gemara, a commentary on the Mishnah, with extended explanations of the Hebrew Bible.
