Malachi 4:4-6

"Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse”.

From Background Notes [BN] for September 29th & 30th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Fathers and children share the responsibility to “remember” the Word of God from Sinai — the settled and faithful Word that transcends the vagaries of time and place.

Fathers and children must keep their eyes open so that they do not miss the arrival of the Elijah-like prophet who prepares the way for the future Day of Yahweh. Fathers and children need to turn their hearts to each other, and thereby preserve the covenant of the land that allows them to live together and to work together and to build together for the future yet to come. This is a marvelous text that helps Israel to see the glory without fuzzy vision or crossed eyes or near-sightedness. Looking at things with their eyes wide open, old and young alike become partners in the new temple God is building in the world.  [BN, 5]
