Matthew 5:17

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

From Background Notes [BN] for June 30th / July 1st written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Obedience, then, means living in freedom under the Word of God.

It does not mean living “under the law,” where the force of the word “under” is the burdensome sense. Refusal to live “under the law” is not the same as being disobedient to the law. After all, Jesus came to fulfill and not to destroy Torah.  The new obedience Jesus invites sees Torah as the Word of God, addressed by the Father through the Son to those who will “hear” in freedom and obedience. [BN, 19]
