Ecclesiastes 5:19-20

Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-- this is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

From Background Notes [BN] for May 5th & 6th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

Having wealth means nothing, if we do not have the God-given ability to "enjoy it.” Our reading of the previous texts helps us to see that possessions are only enjoyed when they are put to divine purposes…

…and when we put faith in God and not in the possessions. The writer of Ecclesiastes, Solomon, knew only too well the frailty of the material world. His book of "wisdom" reveals a futile pursuit of such things, and yet an overwhelming lack of joy. Only if God "keeps him occupied with gladness of heart" do any of his treasures mean anything. By contrast, the person who lacks this heart-felt, God-given joy, experiences his wealth-filled life as "without meaning" and "is never satisfied.” What good is a rich man's wealth if he cannot enjoy it?  [BN, 7-8]
