From Background Notes [BN] for Aug 6th & 7th written by
Pastor Bob Brown:
Among the Jewish people, the book of Jonah
is read in the synagogue every year on the Day of Atonement.
Its powerful message is a timely
reminder of the Lord’s mercy to all who return to Him sincerely. More than a problematic
tale about a man who was swallowed by a great fish, Jonah’s story is our story;
not simply something that happened, but something that happens to us when we
are confronted by the “word of the Lord” which keeps being given. [BN,1]
