That is, this love of God openly expresses what God does and not only how God feels. Yet we acknowledge that God has deep feeling when He loves, and the Bible certainly says that He does (see Isaiah 49:15; 66:13), but...

...His love is public when He gives His one and only Son to the world. This act of giving, of lavish generosity, energizes faith in human beings who hear the message. Indeed, God’s love is the very foundation for taking the first step of faith. Faith is our reciprocation of God’s love. By it we say to God, “I have full faith that You, O Lord, are trustworthy in your dealings with me, because You have taken the extraordinary step of giving your only Son to rescue me from ultimate death.” [BN,2]
