Matthew 1:20

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

From Background Notes [BN] for December 14th & 15th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

In the opening chapters of Matthew is risky territory that catches one man off guard. He stumbles into the chaos of a messy life, and then meets a messenger with Good News of a Savior about to be born and placed into his care.

Through his encounter with the other, one man finds an open door and a vision and an invitation “to trust and obey.” One man belongs to a long line of other men and women that journeyed before him, discovered the unevenness of the road, and yet finished their course with long-term consequences for future generations — 42 generations if you care to accept the arithmetic of Matthew 1:17. [BN,1]
