From Background Notes [BN] for December 14th & 15th
written by Pastor Bob Brown:
In the opening chapters of Matthew is
risky territory that catches one man off guard. He stumbles into the chaos of a
messy life, and then meets a messenger with Good News of a Savior about to be
born and placed into his care.
Through his encounter with the other,
one man finds an open door and a vision and an invitation “to trust and obey.” One
man belongs to a long line of other men and women that journeyed before
him, discovered the unevenness of the road, and yet finished their course with
long-term consequences for future generations — 42 generations if you care to
accept the arithmetic of Matthew 1:17. [BN,1]
