Luke 1:19-20

The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

From Background Notes [BN] for December 7th & 8th written by Pastor Bob Brown:

“Be still and know that I am God,” wrote the psalmist (Psalm 46:10). God is saying to this man, “Give your fears a rest. Take Sabbath and reflect on the wondrous thing I am doing for you. Take time to be holy, Zechariah.

Nurture your faith and prepare yourself to believe my words ‘which will be fulfilled in their time.’ Honor the waiting. Share with your wife Elizabeth the patience of her pregnancy.” Which is more demanding, waiting nine months or enduring Israel’s trials for nine hundred years? Zechariah must rely on the meaning of his own name, “Yahweh remembers,” and do the important work of soul-searching and hope-rising as they draw him into the future where nothing shall be impossible. He must live the life of the covenant that binds Zechariah to the God who remembers His words and fulfills them. [BN,6]
